Community Engagement Platform- Privacy, Communication & Terms of Use

The OSLA website www.osla.on.ca, member/ non member database, and community collaboration tools comprise OSLA’s “Community Engagement Platform” or “Platform”.  The Platform has been developed to provide members, non-members and the general public with information and tools to inform the practices and utilization of the professions of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.    


This Community Engagement Platform has varying capabilities and information based on membership status with members being offered the most robust service offerings/access.

This Community Engagement Platform is provided to you subject to your agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions of use ("Terms and Conditions"). BY ACCESSING OR USING THE PLATFORM INCLUDING WEBSITE, PROFILE INFORMATION, AND SOCIAL TOOLS, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH ONE OR MORE OF THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, DO NOT ACCESS OR USE THE PLATFORM. OSLA reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time and your continued access or use of the Platform after such change indicates your consent of these Terms and Conditions as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms and Conditions regularly.

OSLA is the unified voice that supports Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists practicing in Ontario to enhance the quality of life for Ontarians.


The Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (“OSLA”) is the collective voice advocating for the professions practicing in the province of Ontario.

Ownership of Information

At all times, the contents of all material available on the osla.on.ca website is the property of OSLA unless otherwise indicated. For members, the content that you create on forums or interest groups does not belong to OSLA.  While recognizing these intellectual property rights, you grant OSLA the right to store, copy and share the content you post with others as long as original authors are cited.

Members of OSLA may download pages or other content from the OSLA Platform for their own personal use, consistent with the mission and purpose of OSLA. However, you are reminded that all material on this site is protected by copyright, and is and remains the exclusive property of OSLA. The material may only be copied for non-commercial, personal or educational purposes, provided no part of such content may be otherwise or subsequently reproduced, downloaded, disseminated, published, or transferred, in any form or by any written means, except with the prior written permission of, and with express attribution to OSLA.

Except as expressly provided in these Terms and Conditions, any copying, retransmission, distribution, republication, modification, translation or sale of the information contained in the Platform, in whole or in part, or any retransmission, republication, distribution, modification, decompilation, disassembly, reverse engineering or other exploitation of the OSLA Platform without the prior written permission from OSLA is strictly prohibited. You acquire absolutely no rights or licenses to the OSLA Platform or the information contained in the OSLA Platform other than the limited right to use the OSLA Platform and the information contained in the OSLA Platform in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. OSLA reserves the right to suspend or terminate your access to any part of the OSLA Platform immediately, without notice, at its sole discretion. You are solely and fully responsible for all consequences, however remote, resulting from your use of the OSLA Platform or the information contained within it.


Collection of Personal Information
As a visitor to this site, you can engage in many activities without providing any personal information. In connection with other activities, such as utilizing online or hosted Services, the Site may ask you to provide certain information about yourself by filling out and submitting a form. It is optional for you to engage in these activities. If you elect to engage in these activities, however, the Site may ask that you provide personal information, such as your first and last name, mailing address (including postal code), country of residence, e-mail address, employer, title, telephone and facsimile numbers, and other personal information. When participating in electronic commerce via the Site, you may be asked to provide a credit card number. Depending upon the activity, some of the information that is asked of you may be mandatory and some may be voluntary. If you do not provide the mandatory data with respect to a particular activity, you will not be able to engage in that activity. Similarly, if you wish to delete your information (pursuant to the mechanism set forth in "Updating your personal information and privacy preferences") that is mandatory, you will no longer be able to engage in a particular activity.

Consent to Communications

Both members and non-members are provided with the opportunity to consent to electronic communications following the creation of your profile. Unless you have expressly opted out of communications provided by OSLA, your membership provides implied consent to communicate with you via e-mail.  Even if you have opted out of communications with OSLA, as a member of OSLA, we are legally obligated to provide you with some information such as notice of the AGM or renewal notices. 


Certain names, words, titles, phrases, logos, designs, graphics, icons and marks displayed on the OSLA Platform or in the information contained in the Platform may constitute trade-marks or trade names of OSLA, or its licensors and Partners. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions or on the Platform shall be construed as granting you a license to use any such trade-marks or trade names.

Conformance with Law

In addition to complying with these Terms and Conditions, you agree to use the OSLA Platform and the Content for lawful purposes only, and in a manner consistent with all applicable local, national or international laws and regulations. Some jurisdictions may have restrictions on the use of the Internet by their residents. Potential users in any jurisdiction of the world whose laws (whether common, statutory, regulatory or codified) would: (i) void these Terms and Conditions in whole or in any essential part (the essential parts being at least, but not only, the provisions relating to governing law, the disclaimer and limitation of liability); or (ii) render accessing the OSLA Platform illegal, are not authorized to use the Platform.


You agree and undertake that you will not upload or transmit onto the Platform any content of any type that infringes or violates the rights of any party, including content that: (i) infringes the copyright, trade-marks or other intellectual property rights of any third party; (ii) is injurious to a third party or defames, libels or disparages any third party; or (iii) is offensive, indecent, obscene or pornographic. You further agree and undertake that when using the Platform you will not: (i) interfere with other users' use of the Platform; (ii) post or transmit any files which contain viruses, worms, Trojan horses or other code that manifests contaminating or destructive properties; or (iii) post material for advertising or commercial solicitation unless authorized by OSLA, in writing, to do so.


While reasonable efforts have been made to ensure the accuracy, timeliness and completeness of the information contained in this Platform at the time of its preparation, the information may contain errors. More recent information may have become available which may make the information contained in this Platform incomplete or inaccurate. Speech-Language Pathologists, Audiologists and other health care professionals should use professional judgement in considering the information contained in this Platform and users of this Platform are encouraged to consult other resources to confirm the information contained herein.

Governing Law

Your use of the Platform and the information contained in the Platform shall be governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and any applicable federal laws of Canada, and the courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any legal disputes relating to the Platform and the information contained in the Website.


If in any jurisdiction, any of these Terms and Conditions are held to be unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, such Terms and Conditions shall be restricted or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining Terms and Conditions shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.

Entire Agreement

These Terms and Conditions constitute the entire agreement between OSLA and you and cannot be modified except as described elsewhere in these Terms and Conditions. Anything in the Platform inconsistent with these Terms and Conditions is superseded by these Terms and Conditions.

No Waiver

No waiver of any of these Terms and Conditions shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such Term or Condition or any other Term or Condition.
