Vestibular Neuritis is a disorder characterized by extreme dizziness (vertigo), balance difficulties, nausea and difficulty concentrating. The symptoms are often quite severe and episodes will abruptly strike, lasting several days and causing vomiting. This disorder is caused by inflammation of the vestibular nerve (a nerve that relays information about balance and motion to the brain).

How Can an Audiologist Help?

Audiologists can help by:

  • Completing an audiologic assessment in addition to formal testing of the vestibular system (system that organizes the senses that relay information about balance and motion)
  • Working in conjunction with an ENT (otolaryngologist) to monitor and/or treat the symptoms of this disease
