Auto Insurance

OSLA was invited by the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance, Doug Downey, and Ministry of Finance officials to join a meeting to consult on the implementation of the Government's Blueprint for Auto Insurance: Putting Drivers First.

In preparation for this meeting, our new Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA) representative, Kerry King and our previous MVA representative did a masterful job of soliciting member input into the issues to ensure we have a comprehensive understanding of the views of our members.

Thank you to all members who gave of their time and expertise to inform the discussion.

Given this work, OSLA was able to submit a document to give the government some thoughts to consider prior to the meeting. This is an important accomplishment as we are helping to set the agenda. We look forward to representing the important role that Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists provide for those who have suffered a motor vehicle accident.

Following that first meeting the government established two working groups to consult on two elements of the Putting Drivers First Program:  the   'Driver Care Card' and the 'Independent Examiners (IE) Assessments'.  In addition, broader consultations and public submissions were available to provide feedback on the remaining major elements which include: the '$2M Catastrophic Benefit' limit and the "Care Not Cash" provision.

OSLA has been involved in all these groups through our participation in the Coalition of Health Professional Associations in Ontario Automobile Insurance Services (the Coalition).
